Last weekend Mitt Romney’s campaign held a series of high end fund raisers along the East Hampton shore of New York. In reading the coverage of these events by Michael Barbaro and Sarah Wheaton, in the NY Times, I ran across this paragraph,

A few cars back, Ted Conklin, the owner of the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, N.Y., long a favorite of the well-off and well-known in the Hamptons, could barely contain his displeasure with Mr. Obama. “He is a socialist. His idea is find a problem that doesn’t exist and get government to intervene,” Mr. Conklin said from inside a gold-colored Mercedes as his wife, Carol Simmons, nodded in agreement.

I shook my head and thought, they don’t even understand the meaning of the word ‘socialist’ yet they (read Obama haters) toss it around like it’s common knowledge. What’s discouraging is that Ted Conklin and Carol Simmons should know better. Obviously they are educated, successful people living the good life but they don’t understand the difference between a social safety net and socialism as practiced by Marx and Lenin? This is obviously what happens to smart people fed an unending diet of hate by Fox News.

The following day I read an excellent explanationof socialism by a person who’s lived under the regime, the extraordinarily talented movie director Milos Forman.

Thanks, Mr. Forman, too bad Ted Conklin and Carol Simmons missed this because it was published in that liberal rag, The New York Times.
