So...How's the Surge Working?
In Iraq, 2007 is deadliest yet
With the deaths of five more soldiers today, 2007 has become the deadliest year yet for U.S. troops in Iraq.
Although the September and October death tolls for U.S. troops were the lowest in more than a year, August’s was higher than July’s and higher than the previous August’s as well. With nearly two full months to go in 2007, the year’s casualty count stands at approximately 852; 850 U.S. troops were killed in Iraq in 2004, until now the deadliest year on record.
Loving Mattie Belle
My son taught me the true meaning of love and my dog Matilda better known as Mattie taught me how much a human being can love a dog. Seven years ago we suffered the loss of another amazing dog, Maggie. Three months after Maggie’s sudden death, my husband suggested we go to the Greenville Humane Society’s shelter, “just to look.” I wanted a short haired, small to medium sized dog and I made my preferences crystal clear. When we entered the adult dog section, my husband walked directly over to the cage containing a large, longhaired dog. He declared, “I like this one,” my now infamous response was she’s too big and ugly. I’m ashamed I said that but Mattie was a little different looking with her bobbed tail and mixed up colors of black, gray and white. When we removed the dog from the cage and walked outside my husband said, “sit” and the dog immediately sat down and waited for further instructions. At that moment I knew this dog was coming home with us. There was no name on the tag, the only facts we gleaned were that the dog was female and approximately three years old and the owners had surrendered her saying the couldn’t keep her.
Code Pink-Peaceful Women With A Purpose
Code Pink http://www.codepink4peace.org/ is a women led grass roots peace and social justice movement working to end the war in Iraq and stop new wars. Code Pink calls for policies based on compassion, kindness and commitment to international law. The group was founded in 2002 and now has 250 active local groups across the country and around the world. Those are the facts despite what lies you may have heard in the media. Code Pink members attended a House Foreign Affairs committee meeting this week, greeting Secretary of State Condolezza Rice with cries of “war criminal.” The ladies were dragged out of the committee room by security. Later White House press secretary Dana Perino had this to say about the incident,” I saw a picture from that hearing where a lady in Code Pink with red painted on her hands disrupted the hearing, and I think it’s despicable, and unfortunately, it seems that increasingly Congress is being run by Code Pink.”
