Vote Democratic for a Change
On Tuesday, November 7th I will be proudly voting a straight Democratic Party ticket. This year I think the South Carolina Democratic Party and the Greenville County Democrats have done an outstanding job of fielding qualified candidates in every race. In the past the Democratic field has been thin and in some cases our party has attracted fringe candidates simply because no one else wanted to even try to defeat or unseat a Republican candidate in South Carolina. This year however we are blessed with a long list of solid candidates who bring experience, expertise and passion to the table.
Shining a Light into the Congressional Cesspool
My hero Bill Moyers is back on TV, his debut broadcast Bill Moyers on America aired last week on PBS and it was a doozy. I'm just geeky enough to be fairly well versed in the financial shenanigans committed by convicted felon and former College Republican President Jack Abramoff and his best buddy former House Speaker Tom Delay but my research didn't scratch the surface of the cess pool of political corruption detailed on Moyer's two hour program "Capitol Crimes." If you missed it you can still stream the show on-line by clicking on www.pbs.org.
GOP Foxes Guard the Congressional Hen House
"Sex offenders are not petty criminals. They prey on our children like animals and will continue to do it unless stopped. We need to change the way we track these pedophiles...It has often been noted that a society can be judged on how it best treats its children. We have a moral responsibility to do everything in our power to protect our kids from these animals." -Former Florida Rep. Mark Foley- The above quote taken from a report on salon.com was made by Rep. Foley in testimony before the House Judiciary Committee in 2005, the same year he had an instant message conversation with a 16 year old male page in which he asked for explicit details about what turned the boy on, his preferred method of masturbation and congratulated him for concealing sexual exchanges on the computer from his mother. Ironically, Foley celebrated Internet Safety Day in July 2004, by warning parents that the Web had become 'a new medium for pedophiles to reach out to our most vulnerable citizens'America's children." Now that's rich.
