The Tide Begins to Turn
Years ago I had a disagreement with a friend and co-worker and when I tried to talk through our differences and reach some sort of accord, he turned on me with a fury that took my breath away. It took me years to understand that that kind of angry, irrational and outsized reaction to a seemingly minor issue often indicates that the other person is wrong-knows he's wrong but can't admit it. Instead of admitting their error they try to turn the tables and put you on the defensive. The scenario plays out the same way between adulterous spouses and their suspicious partners.
The Human Face of Collateral Damage
Last night I attended a program at the Greenville main library, hosted by the Anderson chapter of Pax Christi, a Catholic peace organization. The presentation was an effort to build local support for "No More Victims" a nation-wide humanitarian aid organization which works to find medical sponsorships for war-injured Iraqi children and also forges bonds of communication and understanding between these children and their families and communities in the United States.
Dispatches from the Deep South-2006
Recent national polling by the Associated Press-Ipsos reveals that nearly three to one Americans have little respect for the GOP-controlled Congress and want to see Democrats wrest control of the House of Representatives this fall. To make matters even worse for the GOP moderates, liberals and even disgruntled conservatives are motivated to turn out and vote this November. This news may astound you if you live in South Carolina, 'the buckle of the Bible belt,' a state so thoroughly steeped in conservative-Republican culture that as a progressive-liberal you are made to feel isolated and alone.
