Meet Roxanne Walker…The South Carolina Broadcasters Association named Roxanne Radio Personality of the Year in 2002. She has been honored for her political opinion commentary by the Greenville Chapter of Women in Communications.

Roxanne resides in Taylors, SC with her husband Alan and the best dog in the world Allie.

Reflections on Social Isolation

A friend posed the question recently, “How has the stay at home order affected you?” My appreciation for nature has been heightened. Spring arrived along with the Corona virus and that somehow felt fortunate. The sight of green grass and flowers, trees and bulbs bursting into bloom softened the blow of the lock down order. Living in the oldest park in the city of Greenville turns out to have its advantages. I have a view of two small ponds and a stream from my open deck. The ability to sit outside and feel the wind, hear the water and the birds has been a huge boost to my mood and mental health. A soothing balm to the endless wave of bad news and even worse those nightly two hour news conferences which have turned into mini rallies with reporters forced into playing supporting roles to the cult of Trump.

Dark Days for Democracy 

There have been dark days in my life, unemployed, broke, depressed and angry. Much of my frustration stemmed from the fact that even though I lived my life according to my moral values and beliefs I was still thwarted in my career by petty people who had more power than I did. Through the hardest times, I maintained my moral compass and never wished my enemies ill or actively worked to seek revenge. I was quietly confident that in the end good would triumph over evil and for the most part that’s how things have worked out for me.

Mad as Hell 

I just finished reading Rebecca Traister’s new book “Good and Mad.” It was the right book for the times we find ourselves in and was given to me by my feminist son so obviously the perfect gift as well. I’m a feminist who was heartbroken by Hillary’s loss in 2016 but managed to fuel my rage into volunteer work on behalf of the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates. Traister’s spends a good bit of time in her book discussing the Me Too movement and how that transformed the landscape in the wake of Trump’s election.
