Dark Days for Democracy

There have been dark days in my life, unemployed, broke, depressed and angry. Much of my frustration stemmed from the fact that even though I lived my life according to my moral values and beliefs I was still thwarted in my career by petty people who had more power than I did. Through the hardest times, I maintained my moral compass and never wished my enemies ill or actively worked to seek revenge. I was quietly confident that in the end good would triumph over evil and for the most part that’s how things have worked out for me. This week as Donald Trump shuffled through his triumphant acquittal celebrations my heart turned black and I actively wished him ill. I picked a fight with my poor husband, gave myself a migraine then realized what was happening and snapped out of my funk. I’m surrounded by friends and family who are convinced that Trump will win reelection and can give me a million reasons why they believe this. I simply refuse to believe that people won’t show up to vote to save our Democracy from a madman.

Watching that bizarre performance in the East Room of the White House was painful, to watch that idiot man child enter the room to the tune of Hail to the Chief, in the people’s house then proceed to crow about his victory over his perceived political enemies, to attack former President Obama and on and on. I can’t decide what was worse Trump’s hateful performance or the slobbering, ass kissing Republican politicians and donors that packed the room. They laughed and cheered as their dear leader denigrated his office and our nation. These are indeed dark days for our Democracy, right is wrong, wrong is right the bad people are winning but take heart lovers of democracy and fairness, politics is a pendulum and just like a pendulum it swings both ways. Every dog has its day this just happens to be theirs.

You can throw yourself a pity party but once it’s over get up and get moving. Make sure you are registered to vote, know your polling place, https://www.scvotes.org/update-your-voter-registration-information

Then volunteer to do something. Make phone calls, canvass, register friends and neighbors. Give money to the Greenville County Democratic Party at https://secure.actblue.com/donate/greenville-county-democratic-party-1 Support candidates like Jaime Harrison in his battle to defeat Capt.
