No Safer
I remember so clearly after the September 11th attack on America when people thanked God that George Bush was President because he would keep them safe. Four years after that attack by terrorists against America, the 9-11 commission says America is no safer from terrorism, that we've wasted these last four years. The commission gave the Bush administration and the Republican dominated Congress failing grades on prevention efforts aimed at thwarting another terrorist attack on American soil. "While terrorist are learning and adapting, our government is still moving at a crawl," said Thomas H. Kean, the 9-11 Commission's chairman and a former Republican governor of New Jersey according to the NY Times. "Many obvious steps that the American people assume have been completed have not been. Our leadership has been distracted." Yeah, I guess that war in Iraq was a little bit of a distraction.
You see in the election of George Bush the American voter bought style over substance. That straight-shooting, Christian, cowboy, you-all thought would keep you nice and safe turned out to be a spoiled, frat boy with a short attention span and bad advisors, who managed to start an un-necessary war, squander an economic surplus and show absolutely no leadership skills other than the ability to climb up on a truck bed and bray into a megaphone.
I'm so sick of the lies and the bull shit that I can't even stand watching George Bush, Dick Cheney, Condi Rich, Rumsfeld or any of his other flunkies any longer. I feel that God should strike them all dead for all the lies they've told and all the lives that have been lost as a result of those lies.
And still the bull shit continues...just this last week according to the NY Times, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said, "We have taken significant steps to better protect the American people at home. There is more to do. This is the President's highest responsibility." Give me a freaking break. How does this man sleep at night or get up and go to work in the morning. Is he a socio path? Has he convinced himself of the lies or does he just love the limelight so much that he will spew any bullshit to stand in the light?
Oddly enough, a Republican seemed to make the most sense out of this mess. "The American people ought to demand answers," said James R. Thompson, a Republican commissioner and a former Illinois governor according to the NY Times. "Why aren't our tax dollars being spent to protect our lives? What's the rationale? What's the excuse? There is no excuse?"
And I'm sorry, but if you voted for this man's sorry ass, you deserve part of the blame for this mess. Voting is a privilege and the next time you vote for someone you ought to think about why you're voting for them and know and understand why and where they stand on issues that are important to you and your family. And you know it might take more than five minutes to decide this. God forbid you should have to read an entire article about someone to learn their positions on issues. I wouldn't want to tear you away from that latest episode of South Park. Don't vote for someone because they are good looking or seem "nice." Grow up and take this process seriously. Our lives and our children's lives depend on it.
