State of the Union

Being a Democrat these days is like getting gang raped on a daily basis. You know you are being victimized, you know its coming and yet you feel powerless to stop it. The Democratic Party desperately needs a hero, someone to step into the breach and save us all.

Maybe it's because I'm menopausal, maybe it's because I just read Anna Quindlen's Newsweek column, maybe it's because tonight we have to endure The State of the Union address from our president, but for whatever reason I'm feeling hopeless and helpless. I want someone to tell the truth, to stop the war, to create jobs and just string sentences together that make sense and let you know that someone who has his shit together is in charge and everything will be all right.

I think that's what all American's want, a big Daddy to let you know and feel that everything is going to be all right. It's like one of my favorite songs "Someone is watching over you." We all want to feel protected and safe. The problem is that voters elected a president that has all the trappings of being a good father and none of the skills. This cowboy truly is, 'all hat and no cattle.'

I gotta give Karl Rove props though, because he's the one that orchestrated George W.'s rise to power and it was truly brilliant. Of course it helped that the Democrats were liked stunned children after a head on collision but still you gotta give the old S.O.B. props for execution of a brilliant plan.

OK, so Bush and his posse stole the election&let's move on. We are in deep shit here as a country and the idiots are in charge. It's time to get serious and as far as the eye can see are a bunch of old white men presuming to care. I truly don't see someone fresh and un-tainted out there for the progressive, liberal voter to support. And that makes me depressed and sad.

The average person can't get elected to office because it's too expensive, complicated and scary. So the lucky, rich, opportunistic, mainly white men get elected, attain majority status and run us into the ditch and here we sit.

It's morning and the miserable State of the Union speech is behind us. President Bush took pains to pay tribute to a soldier that had been killed in Iraq, reading from a letter the soldier had written prior to his death. Bush then whored out the soldiers' family who were sitting in the gallery. Another dead soldier's mother, Cindy Sheehan was also an invited guest in the gallery but...since she wore a t-shirt that read 2,245 Dead...How Many More, she was arrested and roughly escorted from her seat to jail.

In a missive appearing on truthout.com, Cindy details her experience which is in stark contrast to other published accounts of her address. I'm going to take Cindy's word for it.

You need to ask yourself what kind of country we are living in that chooses to handcuff and arrest the mothers of our fallen soldiers, simply because they have the courage to protest this war within sight of our President and his wife? Are we as a country willing to sacrifice our dignity, respect for our war dead and our privacy all for some illusion of security and the power of the Presidency?

I'm praying to God and all the higher powers in the universe for the restoration of sanity in the United States of America. The madness must stop and we as a country need someone, anyone to step into the breach and save us all.
