South Carolina's Historical Struggle to Provide High Quality Education For All
As a transplant to South Carolina I’ve often wondered why there seemed to be such hostility and lack of support for public education in this state. Public schools would seem to be the rock bed of any state’s future and financial and political support would seem to be a no brainer. For a concise and eye opening historical perspective on the history of public education in South Carolina, I highly recommend a new article in the Free Times. Ron Aiken provides the historical facts about South Carolina’s struggle to support public education and how tightly intertwined this issue is with racial politics.

If you find yourself wanting to take action after reading this article there are several things you can do. If you haven’t seen the outstanding documentary “Corridor of Shame” request a copy from your public library and view it with friends. Then go to this website http://www.goodbyeminimallyadequate.com/
and sign the petition to change our state constitution.
Thanks for supporting public education in South Carolina! Our children deserve the best we have to offer, because their future is our future.
