Brit Stan Brock gives free healthcare to U.S.

Thousands of Americans yesterday received free healthcare… thanks to a Brit who has been dubbed Florence Nightingale. Stan Brock, 72, has set up a huge makeshift hospital in an arena in Inglewood, California. And in the week that Republican politicians described the NHS as “evil and Orwellian”, people walked for miles to get there. They queued in the hope of grabbing a wristband guaranteeing them free care. Some slept overnight in cars bringing kids for immunisations.

Others queued for consultations about cancer treatment. Hundreds of health specialists worked for free and it’s thought that by the time the eight-day event ends on Tuesday, £1million worth of care will have been given to 20,000 patients. The service was provided by the charity Remote Area Medical. Stan, originally from Preston, Lancs, said the USA should adopt our NHS model. He said: “Something has to be done.”
