Progressives to Obama-Lead Like You're in Charge!
Just when you think things in the world can’t get any crazier, they do. This hysteria over President Obama’s speech to public school kids was unbelievable. You have to laugh about it…and fortunately lots of people are creating fun ways for us to poke fun at the hysterical conservatives http://zaiusnation.blogspot.com/2009/09/hypnobama.html
But I’m still angry over the lack of respect afforded our current democratically elected (by a wide margin) president of the United States. The core of the Republican Party hammered progressives for the last 8 years about how we should all be respectful of a sitting president-especially when the war in Iraq turned to shit and everyone who had a brain turned on Bush. So…now that they are in the minority they can’t seem to summon the same degree of respect for our current president. The very idea that some red-neck high school drop-out who happens to have procreated and has children in public schools would demand the right to vet the president’s speech before their precious children are exposed to his views is shake your head crazy to me. Our president is fully qualified to speak freely to children about studying hard, obeying parents and teachers and striving for success. If you searched the entire country, you couldn’t find a more inspiring story rags to riches story if you tried. This entire incident has reminded me again that conservative Republicans are cry baby-sore losers. Even though they can’t govern they can’t stand to follow the lead of people who can. I’m sick and tired of their antics and it’s only been 8 months since this started. The really sad thing is there is so little leadership in the GOP right now that there seems to be no one in charge. There’s no authoritarian figure to calm the mob. Newt Gingrich finally backed away from the shrill voices who decried Obama’s speech but he waited until this morning to make his views known, long after the damage was done.

We are in too much trouble right now for these petty antics. We have millions of people out of work (including me) without insurance or in danger of losing their insurance (like me), mounting numbers of homeless people, growing desperate for solutions to very real and pressing problems. We simply don’t have time to waste on stupid, ignorant people like Glen Beck and his followers. We need facts, compromise and cool heads to prevail. My solution is to lead like we’re in charge, which we are. Ignore the angry and vocal minority and move forward. President Obama and the Democratic Party, turn on the lights and herd the kids out of the room, it’s time for the adults to take charge.
