Blogging on SCETV's The Big Picture
So here I am again sitting in the SCETV studios in Columbia, invited to take part in the primary election night coverage by Andrew Gobeil. My co-hort tonight is Mike Green, a Republican operative who consulted on the Karen Floyd campaign for Education Secretary. He won’t even tell me who he voted for so…I doubt I’m going to get much juicy dish out of him!
I personally love the fact that all of the staunch old time Republicans seem so appalled that Mike Huckabee might actually win South Carolina’s primary, make me root harder for him. I don’t have a dog in this fight but I personally find Huckabee a little less appalling than McCain who I believe has sold his soul to the devil (George W. Bush) to become president in his twilight years. McCain used to have integrity, back in 2000 when he was unwilling to discuss his time in a POW camp to win supporters. Back when he spoke his mind about the craziness of some of the evangelicals and their judgemental ways but that was then and this is now. I also think you can’t underestimate Ron Paul’s organization in South Carolina.
In any case it’s a lot more low key around here tonight than it was in 2006…when every Republican in town crammed into the studio to get their mug and their thoughts on the air. I sense lots of conflict among the GOP in South Carolina. My favorite headline so far in the NY Times has been; No GOP Anchor in Sight as Reagan Coalition Comes Apart in 3 States. It would appear that not one of the GOP Presidential front runners has the power of personality to pull together the diverse elements of the Republican Party at this point or maybe ever to surge to a clear victory. It’s going to be a fight to the end or at least until Super Tuesday and I love it!
The Democratic Party has held together quite nicely and I think our field is so much stronger that I feel confident who ever wins the nomination at this point will kick the crap out of the Republicans in November 2008. Bring it on!
