Obama Wins South Carolina-SCETV Election Night Politics

So…one week later here we are back in the studio of SCETV…Obama is the projected winner minutes after the polls closed. I kinda thought that Obama would win but I thought it would be closer than this. I think this racial politics deal is a topic invented and nurtured by the main stream media and the Republican Party, who both have no freaking idea what Democratic Party members really think, they just make it up as they go along.

My gut feeling is that people are pissed off and want change and they perceive that Barack Obama can deliver that change. Hillary Clinton, especially in the South transmits the message of politics as usual and people across the nation and across the South are tired of that. I sense a great upheaval and anger in the electorate, a demand for change. According to a NY Times/CBS poll taken in January, 75%of those surveyed felt that the country is seriously on the wrong track…42%of those were Republicans. People are upset. Voter registration among Democrats is up 10 times that of  Republican voter registration so…the time is now for the Democrats to seize this moment and move forward with one of our many qualified and enlightened candidates. The economy, health insurance and the war in Iraq are the top of mind issues and Democrats have the winning positions on all those issues.

Ponder some of the recent quotes in the news Adam Nagourney a reporter for the NY Times said about the Republican Party…”On the most tangible level, the vote on Tuesday was proof from the ballot box of what polls have shown: this is a party that is adrift, unenthusiastic about any of its presidential candidates and unsure of how to  counter an energized Democratic Party.”

Speaking of the United States political standing in the world, Phillip R. DuPont a lawyer in Kansas City, had this to say in the NY Times, “In 2000 one of Bush’s big platforms was that he would restore honesty and integrity to the White House, then he went out and attacked a soverign nation that had done nothing to us.”

People-voters want change but they don’t want superficial change. They want a man who will do what he says for the greater good of all.

The Democratic Party has managed to raise far more money than the Republicans…in the first 3 quarters of 2007, the Democratic Party raised $77 million dollars more than the Republicans.

For some years the Republican Party claimed the moral high ground in Presidential politics, the Bush years seem to have washed that way. Dean Goodson, Director of the Policy Exchange a conservative research group told the NY Times, “There is a desperate sense of need that there must be something better than Bush out there.”

Thomas Valaskck, a spokesman for the Center for European Reform in London said, “The world at large has a massive stake in the outcome of the elections. Never before has the U.S. had such a terrible reputation, a terrible image.”

President George Bush was handed a $236 billion dollar budget surplus when he took office in 2000, today the federal deficit stands at $163 billion. Unemployment is up by 1%, poverty is up 1% the percentage of Americans without health insurance has risen to 47 million, up 2% since 2000.

In terms of human cost, war in Iraq and Afghanistan has  taken the lives of 4,400 men and women.

Americans are sick and tired of the Republican leadership and the misplaced priorities demonstrated by this administration and the Republican party leadership.

January 20th marks the end of the Bush administration and the end of our long national nightmare. That day can’t come soon enough.

Roxanne, Great job on TV. I knew the Republicans would try to credit our record turnout to the weather. I am so proud of our great candidates and all our great committed Democratic voters for coming out to the polls today. We have the candidates that represent America and they are all head and shoulders above in leadership ability, integrity and values than the Republican candidates. Go Democrats. Go Roxanne.

Ginny

You Rock Ginny! I so appreciate the opportunity to speak about our party and our candidates on TV. The Republicans have been in power for so long in South Carolina and for that matter the United States that I think they are still in shock that the Democratic Party is rising, that we are the party with the best candidates the best solutions and the most excited electorate.
We will win in November and I couldn't be prouder.

Roxanne, I listened to your comments on SCETV tonight and that's how I got on your blog site. A great place to visit with fellow liberals.
I'd like to make a point about tonight's Obama win and see what others think including you.

I happen to know that a bunch of people from the right didn't vote in the Republican primary so they could influence the Democratic outcome in favor of Obama. Their hope being he'll be easier to swift-boat come the general election than Clinton.

You know the Muslim crap and the madrassa craziness to name a few choice tactics.

What do you think?

Dear Ann,
Interesting, I just had a conversation with a very nice, well read person who recited all those lies about Obama as if they were true. It's hard to believe that people read a spam e-mail and believe every word. But here's the thing we know the GOP fights dirty and whoever we nominate they will try to smear. I believe that Americans are on to their tactics and overwhelming turn out will help us win in November. I do think it's interesting that they are concerned enough to want to influence our primary...
Thanks for reading, come back soon!
